What A1 281 means

Pump stuck or running in air / little or no water in the system.

Gas Safe engineer: If the gauge is not below 1 bar, or A1 returns after following the repressurise step, contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.

A boiler fault code alone is not a gas or carbon-monoxide emergency. If you smell gas, a CO alarm sounds, anyone feels unwell, or there is an unsafe flame, leave and call 0800 111 999 from outside.

Safe check

Check the gauge. If it is below 1 bar, follow the repressurise step: top up to about 1.5 bar using the filling loop as shown by your installer and the user guide, without removing any panel or casing. Otherwise, or if A1 returns, contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.

When to contact an engineer

If the gauge is not below 1 bar, or A1 returns after following the repressurise step, contact a Gas Safe registered engineer.
